Working on a project that blends storytelling, legacy, and the game of golf is always special, so let’s explore this fun project.
I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Charlie Epps on the launch of his new book, Charlie Epps: The Journey Man. Getting to help bring his story to life online, and create a platform that reflects his legacy, was an incredibly rewarding experience.
A Legacy Worth Showcasing
Charlie’s impact on the game spans decades. As a longtime coach to Ángel Cabrera, he helped guide him to major championship success, including a win at The Masters Tournament.
He’s also a proud member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, a reflection of the influence he’s had on the game, both on and off the course.
This project wasn’t just about building a website. It was about honoring a lifetime in golf and creating something that felt as timeless as the story itself.
From Concept to Launch
Before jumping into design, we mapped out the flow of the site, focusing on storytelling, credibility, and a clear path to purchasing the book. The goal was to guide visitors naturally from learning about Charlie’s journey to engaging with the story themselves.
Strategy & Approach
We focused on three key elements:
- Story First
Rather than leading with the product, we led with Charlie’s legacy, his decades in the game, his role as a coach to Ángel Cabrera, and the experiences that shaped the book. - Clear User Flow
Each section was structured to guide visitors naturally:
Introduction → Credibility → Story → Book → Purchase
This keeps the experience intuitive and removes friction. - Conversion Without Disruption
Calls-to-action were placed strategically throughout the site, making it easy to purchase the book without interrupting the storytelling experience.
Project Scope & Deliverables
- Website design + development
- Wireframing and UX planning
- Book launch positioning
- Mobile optimization
- Conversion-focused layout
The result is a clean, story-driven website designed to build trust, highlight legacy, and drive book sales.
Designing for Story + Simplicity
The design approach was intentionally clean and understated.
We wanted the site to feel:
- Timeless, not trendy
- Editorial, like a book or feature story
- Easy to navigate, with clear calls to action
Each section was built to support the narrative, balancing personal storytelling with credibility and visual simplicity.
Building Trust Through Detail
These moments add depth to the story and help visitors quickly understand the significance of his career and influence.
Bringing the Book Front and Center
We made sure the product section felt clean, elevated, and easy to engage with, highlighting the story while keeping the path to purchase simple and clear.
A True Collaboration
One of the best parts of this project was the people behind it.
I’m incredibly grateful to Charlie and his wife Judy for the opportunity to work together, and a special thank you to Mark Button for bringing me into the project.
Final Thoughts
It’s not just about building websites, it’s about helping tell meaningful stories. Stories that carry legacy, impact, and history.
And getting to do that alongside people who have shaped the game? That’s what makes it truly special.
Explore the Book
If you’re passionate about golf, coaching, or the stories behind the game, it’s absolutely worth the read.
